Founded in Kristiansand in 2018, Pixii has quickly established itself as one of Norway’s most exciting energy technology companies.
The company develops Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) that help customers optimize energy use, integrate renewable energy, improve resilience and support a more flexible electricity system. Today, Pixii operates internationally, serving customers across Europe, Australia and North America.
As the company grew from startup to international scale-up, Pixii faced a challenge familiar to many fast-growing technology companies: the tools, spreadsheets and ad hoc processes that had helped the company get off the ground were no longer sufficient to support the next phase of growth.
Like many startups, Pixii prioritised speed and flexibility in its early years. Teams adopted the tools they needed, processes evolved organically, and much of the business was managed through spreadsheets, standalone applications and manual workarounds.
“We had a very fragmented landscape with lots of different systems handling small parts of the business. As the company grew, we realised we needed proper system support and more structure across the organisation”, says André Gjertsen, Head of IT at Pixii.
The main challenge was that information lived in different places, processes were disconnected, and there was no common platform connecting the business.
When Pixii began evaluating ERP solutions in 2023, the company was still relatively small. Rather than choosing a system based solely on its current needs, Pixii deliberately took a longer-term route.
We wanted a solution that we could grow into rather than one we would eventually outgrow, says Gjertsen.
After evaluating several leading ERP platforms, Pixii selected Infor LN. While the system was arguably larger and more advanced than the company required at the time, Pixii saw it as an investment in future growth, increased complexity and international expansion.
Infor’s willingness to support the company’s growth journey also influenced the decision.
“Infor was willing to work with us and create a commercial model that reflected both where we were and where we wanted to go. That was an important factor in our decision”, says Gjertsen.
Pixii went live with Infor LN in January 2025. Implementing a new ERP system is never a small task, but according to Gjertsen, the project went smoother than expected.
“It was a major effort for a relatively small organisation like ours, but the implementation actually went surprisingly smoothly. We didn’t experience any critical problems after go-live. The system worked from day one”, he says.
Gjertsen believes Pixii’s startup culture played an important role in the project's success.
“We were still a young company. People were used to change, and we didn’t have long-established ways of working that were difficult to change. That made the organisation much more adaptable.”
Today, Mazeppa supports Pixii with advisory services, support and continued development of the Infor LN platform. One example is the implementation of Eye-share to improve invoice management processes.
“There was a good chemistry with Aage and Leif from the start. As a Norwegian company, we're probably influenced by a certain way of working, and we felt that Mazeppa understood both our business and how we operate. That gave us confidence that we could work well together”, he says.
The next major milestone is a planned rollout of Infor LN to Pixii’s Australian operations.
“The processes we designed during the Infor LN implementation in Europe are now our global processes. The plan is to roll out the same solution in Australia and train users there to work in the same way”, says Gjertsen.
This means Pixii can build on proven processes and lessons learned, creating a more consistent and scalable way of working across the business.
Looking back, Gjertsen believes the most important lesson is to think about systems and scalability before growth turns them into a bottleneck.
If you're entering a growth phase, you need systems and processes that support it. The earlier you start putting those foundations in place, the easier it becomes to scale.
Today, Pixii has moved far beyond spreadsheets and workarounds. The company now operates on a common ERP platform in Europe and is preparing to bring the same processes and way of working to Australia.
For Gjertsen, it validates the decision they made back in 2023: choosing a system based on where Pixii wanted to go, not just where it was at the time.
